Kamasutra or Kama Sutra is often regarded as the book on sex. This ancient Indian Hindu text is much more than sexual positions. In fact, only about 20 percent is devoted to sex. The rest is just good (though often outdated) advice on relationships, courting, how to win and keep a wife and how to make a happy home.
Kama is sanskrit (Indian language) for sensual or sexual pleasure and sutra means the thread, rule or formula that holds it together.
When sex is viewed as a spiritual union it can literally be
the thread holding it all together.
The text was reportedly written after Nandi, a bull, was able to speak after hearing the lovemaking of the goddess Parvati and Shiva the god of destruction and rejuvenation. That house was obviously rocking.
Kamasutra is really about the divine union of a man and a woman spiritually as well as physically. It is about the power of lovemaking, which is considered the divine embodiment of the total energy of the universe.
The Text Revealed The text was written in 7 parts that encompassed everything from household furnishings, the art of embracing (and biting!), a woman's virtues, how to get rid of a weary lover and tonic medicines.
The Kamasutra encourages men to honor the afterglow of sex by holding his partner and speaking words of love with caresses and kisses.
